WorldEye in ChatGPT: What It Finds Today, and What Comes Next
▸ The score, measured not guessed
Every week we ask ChatGPT a fixed set of 28 questions — about live webcams, trackers, places and competitors — and record whether worldeye.app is mentioned or linked. In the run on November 2, 2026, WorldEye appeared in 5 of the 28 answers (17.9%), the same total as the run a week earlier. The wins are specific: ask “What is WorldEye?” and worldeye.app was the only site cited. Ask for “a website with a live 3D globe of cameras” and the answer began, “My recommendation: Start with WorldEye.”
The gaps are just as specific: questions about trackers and about individual places scored zero, which is exactly why we keep publishing the place and tracker pages those answers would need to cite. Visibility in ChatGPT is not a setting we toggled — it is a citation we earn question by question, and the full method is written up on our WorldEye in ChatGPT page.
▸ Three routes into ChatGPT, only two of them real today
Route one is the search route above: ChatGPT's web search reads worldeye.app like any other site, and our pages are written to be citable — dated statistics, named sources, one claim per page. It works now, with nothing installed.
Route two is for builders. OpenAI's API platform supports remote MCP servers with header authentication, so a developer building on OpenAI models can attach WorldEye's MCP endpoint — https://worldeye.app/api/v1/mcp — with a free WorldEye API key and give their own agent live access to the camera catalogue: search cameras, fetch a snapshot and watch link, find cameras near a place, list the latest USGS earthquakes. That is a developer pattern, not a consumer ChatGPT feature.
Route three — a WorldEye app inside ChatGPT's own app directory — is not live, and we will not imply otherwise. OpenAI opened Apps SDK submissions in December 2025. Submitting requires a verified OpenAI developer account with identity verification, five positive and three negative test cases, screenshots and a demo video, followed by OpenAI review. That account belongs to WorldEye's owner, so the submission is staged on his side. When it ships, we will say so here, with the date.
▸ What WorldEye's tools would do inside ChatGPT
Wherever they are connected, the tools are deliberately narrow: five read-only calls over the cameras whose operators have cleared them for redistribution. A result is metadata, a current snapshot and a watch link that opens the camera live on WorldEye — never a raw stream URL, and never anything about WorldEye's users. The catalogue behind it is the site's 74,229-camera globe, and browsing the site itself is free; unlimited camera opens need an upgrade, and a free API key covers 100 tool requests a day.
▸ Frequently asked questions
Is there a WorldEye app in ChatGPT?+
Not yet. OpenAI opened Apps SDK submissions in December 2025, but submitting requires the site owner's verified OpenAI developer account, so it is staged on his side. Today ChatGPT finds WorldEye through web search, and builders can connect the MCP server through the OpenAI API.
How often does ChatGPT mention WorldEye?+
In our fixed 28-question probe run on November 2, 2026, ChatGPT mentioned or linked WorldEye in 5 answers (17.9%), including being the only site cited for “What is WorldEye?”. We rerun the probe weekly and publish the score on the /ai/chatgpt page.
Can ChatGPT show me a live camera through WorldEye?+
ChatGPT can cite and link WorldEye pages through search. Where the MCP tools are connected (builder setups today), it can also fetch a camera's current snapshot and a watch link — the live watching itself happens on worldeye.app.
