LIVE CAMERA NETWORK
The Live Camera Index β October 2026
WorldEye serves 83,795 live public cameras across 113 countries. This index counts them β by country, city, US state network and publisher β from a snapshot of the production catalogue, and publishes the full dataset for anyone to check or cite.
Camera index last updated October 23, 2026.
Key findings β October 2026
- The count is 83,795. That is the number of distinct public cameras in the catalogue WorldEye's globe served when this snapshot was taken β the first edition of this index, and the figure every table below is built from.
- One country holds the majority. The United States accounts for 47,341 cameras (56.5% of the served total) β more than ranks 2β10 combined (28,803).
- Three countries hold three-quarters. The United States, Japan (10,674) and Canada (5,068) together hold 75.3% of all served cameras.
- The largest publisher is a river network. Japan's river.go.jp camera network contributes 9,791 cameras (11.7% of the world total). The next eight largest sources are also public infrastructure agencies β transport departments and 511 networks.
- State DOTs are the US backbone. The 17 mapped state transport networks contribute 25,593 cameras β 54.1% of the US total.
- Served is a snapshot, not a census. The indexed catalogue behind this page holds 77,376 unique records. The difference is feeds that were offline, moved, or still collecting when the snapshot was taken.
How many live public cameras are online?
83,795 β the distinct public cameras in the catalogue WorldEye's globe served when this snapshot was assembled on October 23, 2026. It counts cameras, not webpages or video files: each record is one physical camera, deduplicated by camera ID across the catalogue's 77 regional collections.
The catalogue those collections assemble into is larger: 77,376 unique records, 76,575 of them attributed across 109 countries. A live assembly never carries all of them at once. Publishers take feeds down for maintenance, networks retire and relocate cameras, and when this snapshot was taken 4 of the 77 regional collections (us-central, turkey, georgia, mississippi) were flagged as still refreshing, contributing their most recent completed collection instead. Indexed is what WorldEye has catalogued; served is what a visitor could actually open. This index reports both and never mixes them.
| Measure | Cameras |
|---|---|
| Indexed catalogue records (unique IDs) | 77,376 |
| Attributed to a country (109 countries) | 76,575 |
| Served in the live snapshot | 83,795 |
| Countries with at least one served camera | 113 |
| Served records with no attributable country | 16 |

Which cities have the most live cameras?
City figures come from WorldEye's generated city index β the tier behind the city webcam pages β which counts a city when at least 100 catalogue cameras fall within it; 46 cities qualify. Seattle leads with 499 cameras, 355 of them published by OpenCCTV / wsdot. Texas fills four of the top eight places on the strength of the TxDOT network.

The city index is assembled from the same catalogue union as the country pages, at its own build time β city and country totals are not expected to sum exactly.
Where are the cameras in the United States?
Most US cameras are published by state departments of transportation and state 511 traveller information networks. The table tallies served cameras by publishing network: a camera counts toward a state only when its publisher is that state's own network, so multi-state pools are excluded β the largest, 3,233 cameras aggregated under the state511 pool, belongs to no single state. Linked state pages present curated metro-area indexes of these networks; this table counts each network's full feed.
| State | DOT / 511 network | Cameras |
|---|---|---|
| Florida | FDOT | 4,991 |
| Texas | TxDOT | 4,355 |
| California | Caltrans + OpenCCTV / caltrans | 3,308 |
| Utah | UDOT | 2,086 |
| Virginia | OpenCCTV / virginia | 1,455 |
| New York | OpenCCTV / ny511 | 1,365 |
| Washington | OpenCCTV / wsdot | 1,164 |
| Oregon | ODOT TripCheck | 1,159 |
| North Carolina | NCDOT | 1,021 |
| Colorado | OpenCCTV / cotrip | 955 |
| Michigan | MDOT MiDrive | 804 |
| Indiana | INDOT TrafficWise | 708 |
All 17 mapped state networks (25,593 cameras combined) are listed in the downloadable dataset.
Who publishes these cameras?
Public agencies, overwhelmingly. Of the 269 publishing networks in the served catalogue, the largest are a national river authority, three US state transport departments and the FAA's weather-camera programme. WorldEye operates none of these cameras β it indexes the feeds their publishers make public.
| Publishing network | Cameras | Share |
|---|---|---|
| OpenCCTV / rivergojp | 9,791 | 11.7% |
| FDOT | 4,991 | 6% |
| TxDOT | 4,355 | 5.2% |
| FAA WeatherCams | 3,545 | 4.2% |
| OpenCCTV / state511 | 3,233 | 3.9% |
| Caltrans | 2,936 | 3.5% |
| OpenCCTV / arcgis_cams | 2,603 | 3.1% |
| THB Highway Bureau | 2,163 | 2.6% |
| UDOT | 2,086 | 2.5% |
| DGT | 1,934 | 2.3% |
| ASFINAG | 1,833 | 2.2% |
| OpenCCTV / castlerock | 1,658 | 2% |
| OpenCCTV / ndawn | 1,563 | 1.9% |
| OpenCCTV / virginia | 1,455 | 1.7% |
| OpenCCTV / ny511 | 1,365 | 1.6% |
What kind of feeds are they?
25,429 served cameras declare a feed format: 14,181 are HLS video streams, 9,259 are refreshing JPEG still images, 1,658 are MP4 streams, 94 are MJPEG and 237 are embedded publisher players. The remainder are reached through a publisher feed or watch page: 69,242 served cameras expose a direct feed URL, 16,171 a stream URL and 9,651 a link to the publisher's own page β many cameras carry more than one.
How does WorldEye count cameras? (Methodology)
Assembly. WorldEye's catalogue is assembled on the server from 77 regional collections spanning 269 publishing networks β state and national transport departments, river and aviation agencies, city open-data portals and public webcam directories. The globe never queries publishers directly; it serves this assembled catalogue, so the catalogue is the population this index measures.
The snapshot. For this edition we took the production catalogue exactly as the globe receives it (the all-regions catalogue API response), kept the most complete of several responses, and deduplicated by camera ID β the same merge the map client applies. The response used here carried 84,455 records, 83,795 of them unique cameras.
Attribution. A record's country is canonicalised with the same normalisation table the country pages are generated with: codes and variants (US, UK, JPβ¦) map to canonical country names, and values that name no country are counted as unattributed rather than force-assigned β 16 records in this snapshot. US state figures tally records by publishing source against an explicit list of state DOT and 511 network names.
Indexed vs served. The indexed catalogue is generated by unioning the production catalogue with the server's local assembly snapshot and dropping near-duplicates (same camera at effectively the same spot) β 798 were dropped in the current build. A union is always at least as large as any single live assembly, which is why indexed totals run higher.
Why the number moves. Figures published earlier in October 2026 put the served count at 74,229. The served total moves in both directions between assemblies as regional collections refresh and publishers add, move or retire feeds β this index is the current dated measurement and supersedes earlier figures.
Limitations
- This is an index of the cameras WorldEye's loaders collect, not a census of every public camera on Earth. Cameras no loader reaches are not counted, in either direction.
- Feeds go offline without notice. A camera in this snapshot was present when the catalogue was assembled; no edition of this index can guarantee it is streaming at the moment you read it.
- Country labels originate with publishers and their data aggregators; normalisation corrects codes and known variants, but a mislabelled source record can misplace a camera.
- City figures come from the generated city index, assembled at a different time from a different union β treat city and country tables as separate instruments, not one sum.
