Camera index last updated October 11, 2026.
Auckland's 98 cameras are NZTA motorway and state-highway feeds — the largest city cluster in New Zealand's 249-camera index, accounting for 39% of the national total. The grid follows the motorway network that carries the country's biggest city: SH1 running north–south through the isthmus, SH16 heading northwest, and SH20 and SH20A linking the city to the airport.
The featured feeds read like an Auckland commute in miniature: the SH1/SH16 Central Motorway Junction where the two motorways merge in the city centre, the SH20A George Bolt Memorial Drive cameras on the airport route, and the SH18 Brigham Creek Interchange out west. These are the same class of fixed highway feeds NZTA publishes for network monitoring.

The Central Motorway Junction is the feed to watch when the centre jams. It is where SH1 and SH16 braid together through the middle of the city, and when it seizes — which it does most weekday peaks — the queues spill onto both motorways at once. The junction camera shows the merge itself, so you can see whether the problem is your direction or the other one before you commit.
The southern motorway tells the other half of the commute story. The SH1 cameras at the Walter Strevens Drive and Park Estate Road overbridges watch the long run in from the southern suburbs — the stretch where the morning peak builds earliest and clears latest. If those overbridge feeds are already queued, the whole southern corridor is having a bad morning.
The airport run deserves its own check. SH20A is the dedicated airport link, and the George Bolt Memorial Drive cameras — south and north — plus the SH20 feeds at Barrowcliffe Place show the route as it is right now. Auckland weather helps nobody: heavy rain slows the whole network at once, and the motorway cameras show the spray and the slowdown before you are sitting in it. A two-minute glance before you leave beats guessing from a traffic headline.
