About Zao Onsen
Zao Onsen is a famous hot-spring town on Mount Zao in Yamagata, in the northern part of Honshu. The ski area spreads over the mountain above the town, climbing the volcano's flanks from the onsen streets.
The pairing is the point: ski the volcano by day, soak in the sulphur springs by night. The cameras on this page cover the town and the slopes climbing from its roofline.
